DIC v WoD OLDr Grand Final

Write up OLDR Finals:

Score: Drunkards in Combat: 813!!!!!! WOD: 597

A very well done guys! The team work was friggen brilliant! For the people who weren't here this is what happened..........
The
map was on creek and we defended our respective flag (A or C) and did a
2 man push towards B, then we dug in. For a few times we tried to push
for their respective teams flag they had it well defended, so we
changed for a full defense on A (or C) and B with pressure from Iron
and k007m0d33, Iron did very well with his coms and great teamwork help
massively in getting B and guarding it from WOD. Dogs was great help in
helping defending between our main flag and the B flag and got the B
flag a few times which saved our arses. G4ZZ4 being our troll for the
tunnels did excellent in defending the tunnels he made sure that no one
came through and used his coms very well when he was in trouble another
arse saver. Salty with his Sniper RPD took off their heads and sawed
the opposition to bits another key player who held the line. b1ggles
was in defence between our main and B, b1ggles played very well to keep
them off our main flag and keeping them well confined to B when we lost
the B flag. Smudge was in the mood of TKin and he kept killing Dogs and
I, but he also helped to keep them off our main using everything in his
arsenal to wipe them out (and us) <3. Because of these players in
defense they never got our main flag. P3ngu1n our little COD4 champion
(hacker) played out of this earth. What he did was hang back and picked
them off AND DID THAT BLOODY EXCELLENTLY. With great pleasure P3ngu1n
was awarded with the "Valour in combat during a ladder match"
his score was 171 Kills and 20 deaths which is a great feat. Well done
mate very well deserved. How about sharing the love and give us all ur
1337 skillzzzz .

Overall guys well played and well done!!!! now lets show this on the GA ladder.
Hope you guys had fun!

Lets give this a
WHOOORAAAAA

Your lovable 2IC k007m0d33 <3

Drunkards 5th Birthday Celebration -Bird Interviews Ironside

First of all, Happy Birthday Drunkards! 5 years old, who'd ever think we'd be here this long when we started.

As
a part of the celebrations we've had throughout the week I thought i'd
also take the time to celebrate the work of our leading spokesperson,
you all know him as the man outfront with broad enough shoulders to
handle the slings n' arrows and the time to keep us together as group,
our clan leader - Ironside.

Almost 6 months in the role as our
clan leader with years of xp as 2ic to princess Strakallah of France I
thought it was time to rejoice in our 5th year celebrations with an
interview with one of our own, a leading figure in our happy drunken
community, to give us his thoughts, to reflect on our past, present and
future as a online community.

Q: Hey Iron, welcome. So five years old huh, wow, the first year was tough enough but now 5, how are you celebrating?

A:Drinking beer and Playing games, how else would the leader of the Drunkards celebrate?

Q:
Just a few questions about yourself for people outside our community,
could you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to be in
the Drunkards

A: I am married with one child, i am in the army
and have been a member of the drunkards since 2005. I enjoy drinking,
computer games, and pretty much anything scifi

Q:How did you come to be here, why did you join DIC

A:
I was recruited into DIC by Bitec, who i have known in real life for
about 10 years. I joined because he convinced me it was a good mature
and low stress environment to enjoy games.

Q:How is it you find yourself as the clan leader, what lead to the position you are in now

A:
I found myself the clan leader by accident. I had been taking a role in
admin and leadership for a while and suddenly straka found that his
personal circumstances were such that he wanted to step down from the
job, and he gave it to me. Unfortunently that happened at the same time
as a group of guys left the clan so the first week was trial by fire,
but since then things have been going great guns

Q: As our
chosen clan leader you sometimes need to have an outsiders perspective,
outside looking in while being right in the thick of it, what is your
views on how we are doing as a community?

A: As a community I
think we are stronger than ever. Are we perfect? No we are not, but in
the grand scheme of things I think we can all agree that there is not
another clan out there who has a better vibe than the drunkards

Q:What is important (to you) in terms of our clan vision or what it should be

A:
Mateship. I love playing games and drinking with mates, this clan
allows both. While it is always important to be competitive in games
the fact that we are mates first and gamers second gives us the
strength and flexibility to get though the tough times as well as the
good times.

Q: Within the aussie/NZ online community what seperates the Drunkards from other clans out there

A:
This is a tough one for me, it would be easy to say a sense of
community but I have never belonged to another clan. Bitec recruited me
for this clan in 2005 at first I was reluctant because I had seen some
clan players online and most of them were tools. He convinced me to
give it a go and I have never left. I think what makes us a little
different is the essential Australian attitude of a fair go that the
clan supports. (strange coming from a clan founded by an American I
know but hey even yanks get stuff right occasionally)

Q: A
loaded question, we have lost people in walkouts in the past, how do we
recover, what stablizes us, what is the thing you do in that scenario?

A:
Walkouts of individuals are sad, walk outs of groups of guys is
terrible. I never like to see it happen but I know it will happen again
as it has happened before, some people find that they want something
different. We recover and endure, because essentially we are a family,
and we support each other. What do I do when it happens? Well the first
thing I will always try and do is talk to the guys who want to leave
and see if I can fix whatever problem it is that is making them want to
leave. If I cant convince them to stay then I try and insulate the clan
from the damage as much as possible by encouraging a positive attitude
amongst the people who are still with us. I am supported in that by
some of the most understanding and mature clan admins and team captains
that you could hope to have.

Q: Expanding on that we've had
people come back, thats a win for the community, but how do we remove
the us versus them mentality, how do we recognise it and work to unite
ourselves?

A: I discourage an us verses them mentality regarding
anyone who returns. That said, depending on the circumstances of their
departure their may be some bad blood. The best way that returnees can
get past that is play the games they play with the clan and just be
good guys. We are all old enough to deal with a little adversity. I
will always encourage people who have left to return there are some
great characters in out past.

Q: What are your views on
multiplayer team games, how should they be managed, how far should I
team push for excellence, is there a limit?

A: I always want to
win a multiplayer game. That said the whole concept behind the
Drunkards is that we are real people with real lives. We have a bunch
of parents, a bunch of married people, we have students at uni and a
couple in high school. All these things put demands on time. I will
always encourage the team captains to push as hard as they can within
the limits of the team. It is up to the team captains to know their
members and know what restrictions they have. Is there a limit? Yes
there is, when it stops being fun for people and starts being work you
have passed that limit, the games are all about fun, otherwise what’s
the point?

Q: Recruitment and membership sizes, is there a perfect fit, what is your vision to what we could achieve, maintain and become?

A:
There is no perfect size, and with the proper organisation there is no
practical limit to what we could achieve in terms of numbers of teams.
We have excellent admins and team captains and we have to potential to
expand those as required as we grow. My vision is a community of gamers
who enjoy the games and want to compete on ladders. If I have my teams
full for their ladder matches and my gamers happy with the clan then
that is my vision of clan perfection.

Q: For you what makes games great, whats your perfect game, your favorite genre?

A:
For me they have to be fun, a perfect game has to provide a challenge
beyond just reflexes with a mouse, although that doesn’t mean it cant
be a shooter. My personal favourite genre is the Total War Franchise.
The combination Strategy and RTS elements really appeal to me. (Rome
Total War was my favourite) In shooters my favourite at the moment is
COD4 but I still love BF2, especially when I have a good squad working
with me.

Q:I like the medals sturcture we have and the reward
system we employ here at the Drunkards, for those not accustomed to why
we have it could you explain why we have awards such as medals?

A:
The awards and medals that we have are our way of recognising peoples
performance in games. They are generally limited to wins on recognised
ladder matches, or series wins for boutique series like the TOG beer
and steaks cup or the Oldr COD4 league. There are also medals
recognising individual brilliance in a match and support to the clan in
the admin role. And some other like the Lan medals and the sniper comp.
Personally I like them as they provide a motivation other than the
games themselves for people to play. Currently I am the number 1
Drunkards medal holder of all time and I would love to see everyone
break my record as that would mean we have a lot of people having a lot
of fun playing games.

Q: We're about more than one idea and we play almost everything, what other games or activities could we explore?

A:
I would like to see us get back into the mod community that we used to
really explore although some mods these days are almost too big to
download. As for other games, I know we are having a lot of guys
playing AOC and I think that’s great as for other activities we have
our annual lans and those of us who live close to each other get out to
the pubs a lot.

Q:I've been to a couple of LAN's, for those that don't know what makes a Drunkards LAN so fkn great?

A:
The beer I think, I cant remember I was too drunk. Seriously though the
Lans are the best of the drunkards they take that sense of community
and build it, there is great competition and great drinking and best of
all we all have a blast, no egos.

Q: As a former community
leader i'm sometimes jaded at our leadership structure and lovingly
mock it, could you explain how you see the current structure, what
improvements (if any) could be made and what is your take on what
leadership means?

A: After the last reorganisation I think we
have a rock solid structure and I think its working well. I am in
charge but I have a group of admins that I ask for advice on all
things. For the operational side of the house, I have Cannonfodder and
Dogs as my go to guys and the team captains and special projects guys
(recruiting and DPU) go to them as a first point of call. What would I
like to see from a leadership point of view, is Straka back at the helm
hehehehe. For me what leadership means is always doing what is right
for the clan even if it is unpopular. For anyone out there who may
question a decision of mine I encourage them to talk to me about it.
But always believe that anything I do I am doing it for the Drunkards
as a whole.

Q: We can't turn back time, but...any regrets, what come we do better, in what areas?

A:
Nope no regrets I love the clan and anything that was done different
could have made it worse rather than better. What can we do better. I
don’t know, sounds like a good topic for the Drunkchat forum.

Q:
What does the future hold for the Drunkards, what are your plans, what
surprises do you have in store for us....I'm not gonna kicked am I

A:
The future for the Drunkards is a bright one. We are 5 years old and
getting stronger every year. I am looking forward to another 5 years of
gaming goodness. I cant tell you what surprises I have in store or it
wouldn’t be a surprise. And I wouldn’t kick you bird, unless I was
board or someone asked, or it had been a long day or maybe if I had
gas. All Hail Ale.

Thanks Ironside and Viva La Drunkards

News For The Sake Of News

I'm so bored of seeing the same news article on the homepage that I had to write a news article for the sake of it.

I can't believe there are people in this clan more lazy than I.

That is a disgrace!

Ok, so a lot has happened since the last article was published back in like the 40's.

Firstly, we lost a large chunk of our TF2 team due to them wanting bigger and better things. Good luck to them.

Then Bird left the clan again.

Soon afterwards, Straka (me) after having run the clan for almost 5 years, decided to retire from being a boss sort of person and hand that responsibility over to Ironside. All is well and he is doing a great job.

Hacked site

Then crashed forums

Then hacked site again

Forums crashed and restored.

...Future

I bought Guitar Hero III for PC and thus am sort of playing PC games again.

Bird came back to the clan again.

DIC LAN Complete

DIC LAN was a success Special mentions go to Cannon for organising and bringing enough booze so I could leach enough until I got my own.
Iron for being fucking cool.
Grassfire for being heavy enough to make a plastic chair EXPLODE!
Funky for bringing the 360 so I could play guitar hero for like 20 hours straight. Special special mention to Dilbery for being in my guitar hero band. We totally rocked until like 5:30am
Me for my explosive arse after like 7 kilo's of macca's.
Dilbery again for snoring like a chain saw. Also little special mentions to the 10 other people who also snore....Really loud.
Funky for picking me up and HUGE thanks to Exsol for bringing my ass back to the airport.
Moqo...Thanks for taking like the 2 hours needed to go to McDonalds to buy 30 cheeseburgers and 1 McChicken. You will probably never be allowed back into Castle Hill McDonalds unless you call ahead.
Smiddy for setting up the network and providing all the stuff needed. Hell...
Thanks to everyone.
